Welcome to Day 4 of the 14-Day Self-Care Challenge for Busy Moms!
Today’s challenge is simple but powerful: step away from your computer, phone, tablet, and TV for one full hour.
No scrolling, no notifications, no screens. Just you, your thoughts, and the real world around you.
It might feel a little uncomfortable at first, but by the end of the hour, you’ll likely feel refreshed, focused, and lighter.
Why a Digital Detox is Essential for Moms
As busy moms, we are constantly bombarded with information – texts from friends, emails from work, social media updates, and never-ending to-do lists stored on our devices.
While technology is helpful, it can also be overwhelming and distracting. Studies show that too much screen time can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even sleep disturbances.
Taking just one hour away from screens each day can:
- Improve mental clarity – No notifications pulling your attention in different directions.
- Reduce stress and anxiety – Screens often keep us in a reactive state, making it harder to relax.
- Encourage real-world connections – More time for conversations, creativity, or mindfulness.
- Boost productivity – Without distractions, you might accomplish more in less time.
What to Do During Your Digital Detox Hour
If the idea of being without your phone for an hour makes you uneasy, don’t worry! Here are some great ways to fill that time:
1. Read a book – Escape into a good novel or get inspired by a self-improvement book.

2. Pray – Even just 10 minutes can help reset your mood and calm your mind.

3. Go for a walk – Enjoy fresh air, listen to the birds, and take in your surroundings.

4. Journal your thoughts – Write about your day, your dreams, or things you’re grateful for.

5. Do some light stretching – Move your body and release tension.

6. Play with your kids (without distractions) – Engage in their world fully.

7. Declutter a small space – A clean, organized spot can bring instant peace.

8. Enjoy a cup of tea, chocolate or coffee in silence – Just savor the moment without any distractions.

How to Make It Work (Even with Kids Around)
If you’re a mom of little ones, you might wonder how to take a digital detox hour when your kids still need your attention. Here are some strategies:
- Pick a time when they’re napping or engaged in independent play.
- Set up a quiet activity for them. Give them coloring books, puzzles, or safe toys.
- Involve them in the detox. Read together, go outside, or build something with blocks.
What You Might Notice After an Hour Without Screens
Once your digital detox hour is up, take a moment to reflect.
Did you feel more present? Less anxious?
Did you enjoy your activity more than you expected?
Many people find that even just 60 minutes away from screens makes them feel lighter and more in control of their time.
Challenge Yourself Further
If you enjoyed this hour of screen-free time, consider making it a regular habit!
You might extend it to two hours, designate a “no phone” rule during meals, or even try a full day without social media once a week.
