Welcome to Day 3 of our 14-Day Self-Care Challenge for Busy Moms! You’re doing amazing so far!
If you’ve made it this far, I want you to take a deep breath and give yourself a little pat on the back (seriously, do it!). Finding time for yourself when you’re juggling all the things – kids, work, house, errands – can feel impossible, but these small acts of self-care are proof that it is possible.
Today’s challenge? A 10-minute stretch, either first thing in the morning or right before bed.

Why Stretching is a Game-Changer for Moms
Let’s be real – mom life is physically demanding!
You’re constantly lifting kids, bending to pick up toys, carrying groceries, and probably spending way too much time hunched over your phone or laptop.
Over time, this can lead to tight muscles, poor posture, and all kinds of aches and pains.
A simple stretching routine helps to:
- Relieve tension and reduce stress
- Improve flexibility and mobility (so you’re not groaning every time you get off the floor!)
- Increase circulation and energy levels
- Encourage better posture and body awareness
- Promote relaxation and better sleep (especially if you stretch before bed!)
When’s the Best Time to Stretch?
Both morning and evening stretching have their own benefits, so choose what works best for you:
Morning Stretching: Helps wake up your body, gets the blood flowing, and shakes off morning stiffness. If you tend to feel groggy in the morning, a quick stretch session can help energize you for the day ahead!
Evening Stretching: Unwinds tight muscles, calms the nervous system, and prepares your body for restful sleep. If you struggle with falling asleep or wake up feeling sore, an evening stretch routine might be a game-changer.
10-Minute Stretching Routine for Moms
You don’t need fancy equipment or a yoga mat, just a little space and some comfortable clothes. Here’s a simple routine you can follow:
1. Standing Side Stretch (30 seconds per side) – Reach one arm overhead and lean to the opposite side. Feel the stretch along your side body.

2. Neck Rolls (30 seconds) – Gently roll your head in a circular motion, loosening up tension in your neck and shoulders.

3. Shoulder Stretch (30 seconds per side) – Clasp your hands together in front of you and push them upward. You should feel a gentle stretch between your shoulder blades. Hold the stretch and switch sides.

4. Cat-Cow Stretch (1 minute) – On hands and knees, arch your back up like a cat, then drop your belly and lift your head like a cow. This is amazing for spinal flexibility!

5. Seated Forward Fold (1 minute) – Sit with legs extended, reach for your toes (or as far as you can), and breathe deeply.

6. Butterfly Stretch (1 minute) – Sit with the soles of your feet together and gently press your knees toward the ground.

7. Figure-Four Stretch (1 minute per side) – Lie on your back, cross one ankle over the opposite knee, and pull your legs toward your chest. Great for tight hips!

8. Child’s Pose (1-2 minutes) – Sit back on your heels with arms extended forward. Relax and breathe deeply.

Bonus: Make It Fun with the Kids!
If your little ones are awake and eager to join you, why not turn this into a fun stretching game? Here are a few ways to involve them:
Pretend to be animals – Reach up like a giraffe, stretch out like a cat, or curl into a ball like a hedgehog!
Sing a song while stretching – Add a favorite lullaby or fun song to keep them engaged.
Make it a race – See who can hold a stretch the longest (but remind them that stretching isn’t about speed, it’s about feeling good!).

A Few Encouraging Words
Mama, I know how easy it is to put yourself last. There’s always something “more important” to do, right?
But this challenge is about showing yourself that you deserve care too. Ten minutes might not seem like much, but it’s a small habit that can lead to big changes.
So tonight (or tomorrow morning), take those ten minutes just for YOU. Stretch, breathe, and enjoy the moment.
You’ll feel lighter and just a little bit more you again.
See you tomorrow for Day 4! You’ve got this!
