As my first-born son approaches five years of age, I’m already on the lookout for the best gifts I can give him during Christmas. And I just love educational gifts!

My first born once received small toy cars as a gift from one of his godfathers when he was one year old. The toy cars could be dismantled – screws removed. He also got a small screwdriver along with it. That was one of his favorite toys back then.

Even at just five years old, boys are already capable of learning simple strategies.

16. Chess for Kids
My first born is already playing chess. And when I say play, I mean just touching the pieces, moving them wherever he wants. Not actually following the rules in chess.
But when he sees others at home playing it, he watches. And when we play together, I explain how you must move each piece and he listens. But there’s this thing where he really just doesn’t want to play it at how it’s supposed to be played.
Ah well… that’s where things usually start. And I say that’s also where the fun is when you play chess with your five-year-old boy.

Okay just needed to say this – I’m not against individual victory. Of course we have to let our kids experience that too. And they need to experience losing alone too. Because well, that’s life.
