Here’s how you can add eclectic charm into your living room.
Mix furniture styles. Use pieces that look different from each other.

The kitchen is so full of opportunity for eclectic interior design! It’s where you prepare your food with love. So why not add some eclectic love to the heart of the home?
Here’s how.
Open shelving. You can display a variety of things on open shelves in a way that feels warm and homey.
Like in this kitchen, notice how the open shelves hold glassware, plates, books, a candle, a photo, dry goods and potted plants (I love those plants!).
Mix and match dishware. Use colorful plates, mugs, and bowls with different patterns or styles.
Yes, just like this! Look at the beautiful patterns – floral, polka dots, vintage motifs – they don’t necessarily match but they complement one another. What a colorful display! It’s like saying “let’s have fun in the kitchen right now!”
Add something unexpected. Something bold that can easily become the focal point of the kitchen.
Like the cat in here. Hahahaha!!!
Okay… the cat’s not a decor, but it’s just so cute! I love cats too, you know.
Anyway, notice that brightly colored red stove. It immediately catches your attention.
And also, the vintage-style rug, because we usually expect for just tile or wood in the kitchen, not textile. (and the cat… can’t help but notice… but you know that cat adds to the homey eclectic charm)
Dining Room: Where Old Meets New
This is where you enjoy meals with your family. You should all love being in this room!
Here’s how to make it eclectic:
Mismatched chairs. This is very practical because it means you don’t have to buy a matching set. You can use what you have and build slowly. If you have a variety of chair styles and colors, you can use that already!
Statement lighting. This definitely adds personality to the room. And it doesn’t even take up floor space which is awesome!
Notice this black, tiered light. It has a sculptural, layered form, which makes it kind of like a modern chandelier with a natural, bohemian twist. It adds a strong, dark silhouette that contrasts beautifully with the lighter and brighter stuff like the yellow chairs and the colorful rug.
Personal touch. Just let it tell your story – as simple as that.
Shelves, a unique wall panel, and a pop of pretty flowers on the dining table – all these add up to your eclectic mix, like in this dining room, where modern eclectic meets mid-century style.
Bedroom: Soft, Personal, and Peaceful
This is your sanctuary, so keep it eclectic but restful.
Blend bedding textures. Arrange them in layers and it feels very comfortable and so beautiful to look at!
Notice the layered textiles on this bed. They are in different pattern and textures while the colors are very vibrant yet harmonious to one another. It speaks comfort on every angle, while also feeling playful and relaxed.
Create a collected nightstand. Use it to hold your favorite books or a journal. Then add playful decor pieces for a charming look

See that bubble vase with pink florals? Plus, that rounded pink lamp just softens the angular look of the nightstand.
Mix furniture pieces. Again, this is all about telling your story. Mixing pieces allows you to do that. Plus, you can blend hand-me-down furniture, those that you found from thrift stores, and if you have something new. No need to match.
Take a look at this bedroom. The upholstered velvet headboard gives off a retro-glam vibe. Then the wicker coffee table (my favorite here), gives it a boho element. The side table has a more modern-industrial look – it differs from the other pieces, but it still looks so good!
Then there’s a bookshelf tucked in the corner adding a rustic style touch to the whole scene. This mix of furniture is definitely well-thought of.
Kids’ Room: Whimsy and Imagination
Kids’ rooms are naturally eclectic because of all the colors and toys. Just embrace it!
Mix patterns and colors. Beddings, curtains, pillows and rugs don’t need to match. Just make it fun!
Look at this room. It combines bold hues like bright green, mustard yellow, teal, and navy blue.
Then the bedding features circle (donuts), then pine trees and triangles, and the pompoms I love it! Plus, the pillows have stripes and arrows with one in plain yellow, then the rug has large polka dots. Mixing patterns like this is indeed very eclectic!
Create a reading nook. Oh, let your kids fall in love with books! And colors too! This is not just a reading nook, but also a play area. Make it playful!
But playful doesn’t mean messy. So, arrange their books well and also use that space to organize their commonly used toys. Just doing this already makes the space eclectic since kids’ toys and books are indeed very colorful.
Simply add a personal touch like customized name signs as you can see here (notice the Henry sign).
Here’s another reading and playing nook that I just love! Look at those colorful toys, framed art on the floating shelves, the polka dots on the wall, and that rug (I love that!).
Oh, this nook is just so colorful and fun, and it feels so playful indeed! And did you notice that vintage telephone?
Personalize it. Give it a sense of individuality. Make the kids feel that it’s truly their room!
Notice the names and the year pennants on the wall. These instantly tell you that those space belong to each child.
Then there’s also the toys on the bed. Rather than being stored away, they are part of the overall look and function of the room. And why not? They are meant to be played, right?!
Bathroom: Small Space, Big Style
Even a tiny bathroom can have an eclectic vibe.
Mix bold colors. If you can do it in other rooms, why not here?
Notice this bathroom – bright yellow tub, multicolored curtain, rainbow rug and floral stool cushion – it gives off an overall playful look! Like saying, let’s have some fun in the bathroom! And why not, right?
Include an unexpected decor. Somethings that’s not supposed to be in the bathroom, but it’s there, surprising you!

And did you notice the mirror? Not part of the tile-on-tile drama, but it sure does stand out and adds a charm to the bathroom.
Entryway: First Impressions Count
Your entryway is the first thing people see. It sets the tone for the rest of the home. So yes, make it eclectic!
Mix patterns and textures. Just like in other rooms, mixing patterns and textures is one way to make a room eclectic.

Add an artistic touch. No need to be a designer. Just choose your pieces well.
